This magazine cover of Interview was designed by Richard Bernstein and features Andy Warhol photographing model Grace Jones for the December 1972 issue. Warhol founded the magazine in 1969 and featured unedited interviews with celebrities along with photographs and striking ads.
The portrait on this cover is really good, for it captures the laughter in the girls face, not just in her smile, but also in her eyes. I like the background since it really pulls the girl out and since the guy is wearing black it pulls him out, so they are not merged in with the background.

Cover History

Cover types:
1. Early Magazine Covers-
Early Magazine Covers were not really covers, they mainly looked like title pages in books. Not telling anything that was inside the magazine, just the name, publication date, and who made it. It might have a small illustration, that appeared to have a decorative purpose, rather than to illustrate the contents. In the late 1800s they started putting more on the cover such as, if the magazine talked about music, art, or science.

2. The Poster Cover-
The Poster Cover started having color in the magazine covers. Most of the illustration looked as if they were suppose to be framed and hung on a wall instead of on a magazine cover. These still did not say what was waiting on the inside of the magazine, just a photo of something that might be in there.

3. Pictures Married to Type-
The Pictures Married to Type magazine cover relied heavily on cover lines to draw readers inside in a more definite way than the cover art could accomplish. These covers had some titles of some stories that were in the magazine, but not many.

4. In the Forest of Words-
In the Forest of Words magazine cover, almost the entire cover is covered with descriptions of stories that are inside the magazine. Some story headlines were larger than the actual title of the magazine.

Favorite Photo-

"Solar Eclipse"
A photo of the moon passing the sun on July 22, 2009 in Changsha, Hunan province, China. This photo is my favorite of 2009, because it is of the Solar Eclipse. You can see just a little bit of the sun, which looks really cool!




Favorite Song-

"Fireflies" by Owl City
Fireflies is my favorite song. I chose this photo because it is of fireflies, and I think it catches the main idea of the song. "If ten million fireflies, lit up the world as I fell asleep".





Most Important News of 2009-

"First Black President"
I don't necessarily think this is the MOST important news of 2009, but it is one of them, for its of the first black president. It is important only to those who care, I really don't care for the color of our presidents skin, I only care for what he wants for the country.





Favorite Movie-

"Harry Potter 6"
This is my favorite movie because I love Harry Potter. I really like this one the best because it shows them growing up, instead of just learning magic. I chose this picture because it is the front of the movie cover.

Portrait tips and what I am taking a portrait of...

Shoot Candidly

Sometimes posed shots can look somewhat…. posed. Some people don’t look good in a posed environment and so switching to a candid type approach can work.
Photograph your subject at work, with family or doing something that they love. This will put them more at ease and you can end up getting some special shots with them reacting naturally to the situation that they are in. You might even want to grab a longer zoom lens to take you out of their immediate zone and get really paparazzi with them.
I find that this can particularly work when photographing children

Looking Away from the Camera

If your subject is looking at something other than the camera viewers will naturally want to see what it is. You then have two choices - either to show them or not hide the object of their gaze.

Looking Directly At the Camera

If your subject is looking directly at the camera it's hard not to look at them - they become the focal point.
Sometimes when a subject looks directly at the camera it can create discomfort or tension for the viewer of the image - it can be a very strong and confronting pose. This is not necessarily bad - in fact it can really make the shot quite powerful - but it is something to be aware of.

who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful.

I will either take a portrait of my friend Jane or my friend Losa. I will take the portrait of them at the stake dance that is coming up on Saturday, I might also take a portrait of them at church on Sunday. I will use the tips that I have read to make my portraits good. Like making my subject look away from the camera or putting someone else in the photo. Or catching them not posing, just being themselves.

This is my favorite professional portrait.











Focusing in on the subject make a good portrait. But if you have a background that is good too, it helps contrast everything. Something needs to be happening in the portrait to have a good one. Like the ones I chose, the girl on top is playing the guitar and the girl on the bottom looks like she is thinking about something thats bothering her.

I want to do portraits of other people. I will make then be doing something and not just standing there looking pretty. I will also either get close or have a contrasting background.

Favorites of 2009

I picked this photo because it has a baby floating! Not only is the story interesting, but the photographer used rule of thirds by putting the trainer to the side and the baby in the top right corner. They also use balance by putting the trainer and baby on opposite side.




I picked this photo because it is merged, but you can see a little of the stick that the photographer wanted you to see. The photo has merging to make it better.





I picked this photo because the story is sad. It is also amazing how so many people went to the memorial. The photographer used repetition, they repeated all the people over and over again.




1. My favorite memory of my break was playing in the snow with my cousin up in Illinois. It might be a tie between that and painting my room. It is now blue instead of cream (blah).
2. I went up to Illinois to visit my cousins and grandparent (Dad's side) for the first couple of days. Then went to Utah to visit the rest of my family until Christmas. When I got home I redid my room (repainted it).
3. The thing I will remember most about 2009 when I'm 25 is finishing freshman year and staring sophomore year. I will also remember Youth Conference (a camp for the youth in my church in June). I will also remember being in Beauty and the Beast.
