LifeStyles of My Friends

Lifestyles of Friends

By Miriah Loosle

Yesterday I interview some of my sophomore friends, D’Auriel E. Jackson, Whitley L. Body, and Ashley M. Carrington about their lives in and out of school.

My friends are very busy and sometimes pile themselves with so much stuff at school that they don’t have time for a social life.

Many questions were asked and some of the girls had a hard time answering ones like ‘How do you make money?’ or ‘How long are you on the phone/computer?’ D’Auriel Jackson said, “Does texting count? Once again too much.” About how long she spends on the phone/computer.

All of them have dancing in common. Ashley is in Dance I and D’Auriel and Whitley are in Dance II here at Akins. They love their dance teachers and want to pursue careers in dance, such as creating their own studios or becoming a Broadway star. Ashley also has a dream of becoming a Sapphire next year, she says, “Becoming a Diamond would be too hard and besides I’m in Theater Production and Vocal Ensemble, which all ready take up 5th period, so it would just be too much to do Diamonds too.”

When asked if she was going to pursue her interests of dancing and theater after graduation, Whitley Body said, “I will more than likely be majoring in theater for college and I will continue to do them for church.”

The question ‘How much money do you make’ and ‘how do you make it?’ were apparently really hard questions to answer. Other than allowance most of them don’t make any extra money, maybe a babysitting job every couple of months. But when asked ‘how do you spend the money?’ they had plenty of answers. Ashley Carrington said she spends her money on, “Clothes, shoes, CD’s, I’m a teenager what do you expect?” Whitley and D’Auriel on the other hand said they spend their money mainly on the movies, books, or gum.

The last question I asked them was ‘Is there anything else you think I should know about your life?’ All of them said they love to have fun and love what they do.

Name of photographer –Alyssa Schukar
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)-stories
List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio – The photos are too much alike. The photos were too distant. Not enough strong singles.
List two things the judges like- They like the baseball photo. And the guy sweeping the ground.
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? I like some of the pictures because they are good, but there are a lot of dark pictures, I agree with one of the judges, I like optimistic photos better.

Name of photographer – Nick Adams
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Sports, stories
List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio – The focus is a little off. They don’t like how he’s not being original. They keep repeating, “What’s new there?”
List two things the judges like- Some of them are different looks. They like the graphics.
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? Theses ones are also very pessimistic, they are dark. They are very bland, no feelings.

Name of photographer – Melissa Golden
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Stories
List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio – They are boring. The pictures aren’t of the ‘most important part’. They’ve seen these stories before.
List two things the judge’s like- they like the portrait of the old man with the oxygen tube. They are in focus.
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? There are too many old people. I do not like it because it’s all the same story.

Name of photographer –Sam Adams
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)-Sports
List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio – one picture has the back of some ones head. You can’t tell if the people are doing something or not. Too far away.
List two things the judge’s like- it’s kind of nice. They like the one with the guy coming toward the camera in a tunnel.
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? This one is alright. There are a lot of action shots where people are moving.

2. What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? It’s the same stories, but different angles. Everybody is doing something in the pictures.

What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses? There are many photos that are really good in focus and he uses a lot of the different techniques.

3. They are looking for individuality, and a different view of the stories. They’re looking for thing that don’t repeat the same story over and over again.

1. I agree with them on Part 5, they are not that good of pictures. They cut stuff out.

2. I disagree with the on Part 3, I think some of the pictures are really good. Not all of them, but some.

Architectural Shots I like

Details-This photo meets details because it is close up of the building, you can't see the whole thing, but you can make out the smaller details.

Lighting-This shows lighting because of the way the light is reflecting off the other parts of the building.

Patterns-This is patterns since the shape of the square with a half sphere on top, is being repeated in different sizes.

Angles and Shapes-This is not a regular shape. It has corners but the side are not equal.

Surroundings-This is surroundings, for the building in the middle stands out of the old timey surrounding.
